When should I check my gas alarms?
A gas safety check should be conducted by a trained professional at least once a year, but if you suspect that there could be a fault (a smell of gas for example) call a gas engineer immediately. Once you’ve called for gas safety engineer, they will come and assess your premises for any potential gas related issues, and they will also test your gas detection systems to ensure they’re still functioning properly.
What are the risks posed by a faulty gas alarm?
Essentially, you risk exposing your staff to a range of potential dangers by not keeping on top of your gas alarms. Some of these dangers include:
- Gas leaks – the risk of a potential fire or explosion within your premises increases significantly if there’s a gas leak. What’s more, gas poisoning can lead to serious health
complications in the long term for anyone who’s been exposed. If any of your staff report a smell of gas in the area, evacuate immediately and activate any safety protocols you
have in place. - Carbon monoxide poisoning– carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas, which makes it extremely dangerous. Some of the milder symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, nausea, weakness, rapid breathing and lethargy. However, the symptoms can get progressively worse from there, and exposure can even be fatal if the right corrective measures aren’t promptly taken. That’s where we can help – here at Gas Alarm Systems, we provide reliable, cost-effective gas detection systems and solutions.
How fixed gas detection devices can help prevent gas exposure
Our fixed gas detection systems are installed in a permanent location, which helps to ensure the ongoing safety of your working environment. The device helps to monitor the release of toxic gases, oxygen deficiency or enrichment, as well as the presence of flammable gases and vapours. If triggered, it will alert any nearby staff members through a loud alarm system, allowing them to quickly initiate any shutdown procedures you already have in place.
